Updated March 1, 2024 As an introverted extrovert, I did not shed a tear when I was sent home to work. But after months of the same gray walls, Calgon take me away! With many companies continuing to allow work from home, many employees have considered temporary WFM arrangements.
A strong internet connection is likely the most important consideration in finding an alternate place for WFH. Hotels have public wifi, not particularly secure, but Airbnbs can have secure internet connections. And what better way to decide if you like orange walls or blue tiles in your bathroom than a colorful Airbnb.
Research shows that planning a trip can be good for your mental health. Here for it! With that said, from the East Coast to the West Coast, here are my favorite colorful Airbnbs.
Savannah, GA
Savannah, GA has so many colorful Airbnbs, it was hard to choose just one. But this carriage house in the heart of Savannah had me at hello; an orange HELLO decal on the front door to be exact. Color greets you but doesn’t smack you in the face; gold polka dots on the bathroom wall, a tangerine orange SMEG fridge, and teal floors throughout. With pleasant weather in fall and winter, the balcony from the master bedroom or the outdoor space with its mint green chairs is ideal for enjoying your morning coffee.
Louisville, KY
With streaming light and soaring ceilings, this renovation of an antebellum church features a stunning collection of eclectic items. Sit on the hanging chair near intriguing artwork, notice the bold feature walls, and relax in the sunny courtyard. Located in NuLu, this renovated church is thoughtfully designed, filled with numerous inspirational touches, and has everything you need to make your stay (and your kids) comfortable. The neighborhood has lots to offer for foodies; within just two blocks are two amazing brunch spots (Harvest & Toast), two amazing bars (Garage Bar & Goodwood), and a mind-blowing chicken spot (Royals Hot Chicken).
Pittsburgh, PA
I’m fascinated with old factories repurposed into living spaces; a former hat factory in NYC, a former textile factory in Paris. And this colorful Airbnb is a renovated flashlight factory. With original hardwood floors accented by pops of pink and orange throughout, the industrial-chic decor is created with recycled and reused materials. Reviewers rave about very fast wifi, the courtyard, and the hot tub. Love Anthropology? The Anthro Home Outlet is just 15 minutes away. And yes, you need that couch.
Westbrook, ME
Greeted at the entrance with a lime green door, this Airbnb in Westbrook, ME, is the literal definition of colorful minimalism. Home accessories and furnishings are neutral in color, but the apartment is COLORFUL AF. Not common in my search for the most colorful Airbnbs, this Airbnb features a pool! Lounging by the pool while enjoying a beer from one of the several breweries in neighboring Portland sounds like a great way to spend a long weekend in late summer.
New Orleans, LA
Unassuming on the outside, this bohemian loft located close to Magazine Street, is filled with colorful rugs, geometric wallpaper, and intricate mosaic bathroom tiles. With exposed brick walls and high ceilings, light abounds throughout the large space. I’ve mentally redesigned my future kitchen because of these beautiful turquoise cabinets, copper exhaust hood, and open storage shelves. Combine the tilework in the bathroom with the rain shower head of the bathroom in Kansas City and my future bathroom is planned.
Scottsdale, AZ
If a hashtag described this Scottsdale Airbnb, it’s #ihavethisthingwithpink. From the pink flamingo wallpaper in the beauty bar to the pink armchairs in the living room and the pink plates and bowls, the theme of this colorful Airbnb is pink. Tucked away on a quiet street in Oldtown Scottsdale, this large Airbnb is ideal for a group of friends looking to work remotely from a warm climate. The choice of walls for video calls is endless.
San Francisco, CA
So many colorful Airbnbs in San Francisco; add in chowder, chocolate, and hills to work off all that food! San Francisco is a foodie destination and this Airbnb is only a block away from Little Italy and walking distance to Chinatown and the Wharf. With a welcoming mint green facade and a blue door on a street closed to traffic, enjoy your morning coffee in the alleyway. Filled with photos and decor items from the owner’s travels, enjoy the view of the bay while enjoying a glass of wine after walking all over the city.
Dallas, TX
Similar to the Airbnb in Scottsdale, AZ, this location is perfect for bachelorette weekends (no parties in the house) or family gatherings. Filled to the brim with Instagrammable walls and neon signs, this colorful Airbnb is a delight. Just minutes away from Uptown, Downtown, Lower Greenville, and more, this rainbow filled property is sure to delight those looking to explore Dallas.
