Hey! Kate here, your colorful elder millennial. Growing up with a set of encyclopedias and the internet (but not a cell phone), I learned early on how to research anything… thoroughly. Not a total nerd, but I wouldn’t argue.

My BFF was my college roommate, and once we graduated and got our first jobs, we started traveling together. Over the years, we’ve explored some amazing destinations and crafted adventures that feel equal parts memorable and manageable. Those trips taught me the value of thoughtful planning, discovering local gems, and always leaving room for spontaneity.

I started this blog as a way to track all of the colorful hotels and curated experiences I discovered during my travels. Between notes on my phone, files on my computer, and — let’s be honest — a ridiculous number of tabs open across both devices, I needed a single place to consolidate everything. The Colorful Minimalist became that space.

Along the way, I realized that my love for sourcing thoughtful gifts and care packages could benefit others, too. Many friends have told me they love the surprises I pick — and I want to share that same sense of delight with readers here. When you truly know a person, you can find gifts that are meaningful, personal, and memorable.
